My Story

1965 Kay Electric Bass

In the Beginning

My sister played guitar, piano, and flute. She had perfect pitch! I would sneak into her room when she was not home, grab her acoustic guitar and make believe I was a rock star!  My parents ordered her an electric guitar through mail order and it arrived to much fanfare. About a month later, an electric bass came from the same store! Neither of my parents had ordered it! I was told that if in a month no one asked for it back it would be mine. 30 days later I was a bass player. I have always said that the bass came G-O-D versus C-O-D!

My Passion

! My passion for the bass came very early for me. I played in a few high school bands. However, growing up in Manhattan, we did not have any garages So we rented rehearsal spaces around the city. After I left the Berklee College of Music I started touring and ended up in a trio with Ian MacDonald (King Crimson, Foreigner) We were doing some challenging music and I bought a Chapman Stick.  A couple of weeks later I was on 48th St in NYC and saw the #7 Fodera Six String Bass. I realized that everything I wanted to do on the Chapman Stick I could do on a six string bass. And that was that! I have been playing the six string bass pretty much ever since. I love it. It does everything a 4 string bass does and more...

I have been bouncing back between 4 and 6 string bass depending on the situation. I hope you will join me as we journey through the many possibilities that the electric bass has to offer.
